[ Harley is dressed and sitting with her feet up on the small hotel table, flipping through an outdated magazine she grabbed from the lobby. She gets up and bounces over to him when she hears him groan, flopping down on the bed beside him. ]

[ Oh god she is so awake. ]

Or afternoon. We missed checkout. Figured you needed the sleep more.

[oh god she is too awake for him. can she just. go to sleep.

[should he apologize? he thinks he should. for the temporary hold on her wallet, anyway. unless they're actually in a five star hotel and he missed it, he's pretty sure he can pay, though.]

[ Goodness no, they are in a total shit hole. She pats him on the head. ]

Don't even worry about it. Hey, you want some coffee? I got you coffee, but it's cold by now. And it wasn't good even when it was hot. But it's something! I poured Red Bull in mine.

[ That. Explains. Everything. ]

Also, uh, you gonna feel up to a shower? Because you reek. No offense.

[somehow, he's not surprised on the Red Bull front. it does, in fact, explain a lot. Robert makes a sound - not necessarily pained, more of a 'hmh' - and moves an arm under his cheek, supporting and pillowing it as he considers for a moment.

smoke and gasoline. well, at least they cleaned it out of all animal products...he grimaces]

I think I'd better. I just...need a minute.

[beat]

Can you get me some water?

Yup!

[ She hops up and gives him a quick pat on the butt as she goes. Friendly patting. Like friends do!

She keeps talking as she goes to fill the flimsy hotel-provided plastic cup in the bathroom. ]

There's, uh, I dunno if you're hungry yet, but there's stuff on the table. Not a lot. There's a sad banana and a muffin. I think it's blueberry? Or maybe it's really old. Oh! And I got the car thing taken care of so we can leave whenever but we already have the room for another night and maybe you wanna lay low...? Got you a new shirt too.

[ Sets the water on the nightstand by his head. At least she's not making him work for it. ]

[note to self; reconsider calling Harley next time this happens because okay, thanks, that's his butt, can we just not-

amended note to self; how about this not happen again. ever. any of it.

he probably should eat, but he's really...really not hungry right now. thirsty, if anything, and by his limited medical knowledge he's pretty sure water is far more important. all that said...]

I think...laying low is the smartest. I don't know if he'll be looking for me.

[he'll down that water very quickly, thanks.]

[ She shrugs and goes to refill his cup. And, more importantly, doesn't say anything else. ]

[smart girl, Harley. maybe he should call you if for whatever reason this happens again.

he's managed to push himself up in to a seat by the time she returns, and is wiping his face. when he notices she's come back, he reaches for the cup- then pauses]

I'm not taking you away from anything, am I?

[though he does have the sheet nicely placed to protect some lower assets from ogling, so he's taken that away from her.]

[ A smile and a shake of the head. ]

Don't worry about it.

[ She sits on the edge of the bed and waits for him to need another refill. ]

I worry.

[but he's sure as hell not turning her away. he downs this water a bit less quickly than he had the first cup, and lets out a breath after it.]

So. How bad is it...?

[said with a brief glance over his shoulder.]

[ She rolls her eyes to let him know what she thinks about his worrying. ]

Here, lean forward so I can see.

[ She pushes gently on an untouched part of his shoulder, urging him into a better position to check. ]

Barely even crispy! Keep it clean and you'll be just fine. Might wanna sleep on your stomach for a few days. I think you're gonna make it, Robert.

[yeah, yeah. he's not really that used to people going out of their way for him, okay? ~~including running in to a fire okay you know what let's move on~~

he leans obediently, wincing slightly because even if it's not 'crispy', it still feels like crap.]

Guess it's time to stock up on the aloe vera. Thanks. [and now he'll be pushing himself to his feet. he's still tired and it does hurt when he uses some muscles, but-

[ She flops onto the bed as he vacates it. ]

Pain killers in the first aid kit, by the sink. Want me to run out and grab stuff while you shower?

Some better food might be nice. [that is a very sad banana.] Sugars, salts- and some more supplies so this doesn't get infected.

Yup, on it. Don't get dressed right away when you're done. I want to take another look at your back.

[ While he's in the shower she'll go out and pick up more essentials. Toothbrush and deodorant for him, and something more substantial to eat. ]

[he won't. he'll linger in the shower for a long while, partly from pain, partly from soreness, partly from...well, a lot of other things. on the light side, he doesn't mind cold water at all.

when Harley returns, he'll have his pants on and a towel around his neck, lying on the bed again- not quite dozing, but that took a lot of what energy he'd managed to recover. his comm will be right by his hand, a sparse handful of messages made while she was out]

[ She lightly touches his shoulder when she comes back, before sitting on the bed next to him with the kit and a shopping bag. ]

Hey. Eat something and let me get some fresh bandages on you, and then you can go back to resting all you want. Okay?

[better the shoulder than the butt, like earlier. right? but his eyes are open, and after a few blinks he seems alert enough.]

As long as it's not another sad banana and dubious muffin.

[ She laughs and pulls lunch out of the bag, setting it on the nightstand. ]

Nope, it's a happy apple and an only slightly dubious sandwich.

[ And a large bottle of water. Constantly refilling that tiny cup is a pain in the ass. ]

[well for that, he'll push himself up a bit. he'd use the microbots, but he picked up on Harley's discomfort and they're obediently waiting out of sight for him to actually give them an order. though there may or may not be a faint metal rustling, that then dies down.]

That sounds like a gourmet meal, honestly, compared the rest.

[ She helps support him, careful of his injuries, until he gets settled. ]

Only the best for you, darling.

[ Moves behind him with the kit and gets to work. She's slower with the work this time, more gentle. There's no urgency to get it done before he passes out. ]

How's that feel? Better?

Aren't you sweet. [and he's not being sarcastic- well, he may be slightly teasing, but he's sincere, too. and will be starting to work on that meal, slowly, because as hungry as he's realized he is- he distantly remembers something about not eating too quickly? maybe? possibly?

maybe he's just distracted by the replacing of the bandages. there's a few sounds, a bit of shifting and restrained winces...]

It still hurts. Not as bad as last night, but I've still been coughing a bit.

Mm, probably should spend some time sitting up. Easier to breathe.

[ She packs up the kit when she's finished and leans over him to set that on the nightstand as well. Settles back kneads lightly at a knotted muscle on his lower back, careful not to touch too close to a burn. ]

Are you sore?

I might be able to bundle up everything in to a support where I can still rest without leaning back...[and lean forwards instead. not that he's not already doing that, arms resting on his legs since he's gotten enough of the food down to take the edge off, and now...

okay, yeah. that feels a bit better.]

Yeah, I bet. You are tense! Just try and relax.

[ She focuses on his lower back for now. His upper back and shoulders probably hurt more, but navigating around the burns and bruises would be tricky. ]
